Mileage Run - Jan 2026 - Chapter 05
After my flight from MUC, I check into the Sheraton directly at the airport using my hotel voucher. I’m assigned room 3082, which is a standard Deluxe room.
In one of the closets, however, it seems they forgot to reinstall the interior paneling.
Before turning in for the night, I make a quick stop at the Taverne in the Sheraton’s lower level, but it’s an early night for me nonetheless.
The next morning, I’m up again at 6:00am and grab a quick breakfast at the Sheraton before heading straight back over to the airport.
I make my way to the new First Class check-in area at the A gates, which was completed at the end of 2025. I hadn’t seen the redesigned area before, so I’m happy to take the small detour—even though my flight departs from the B gates. The area features small meeting spaces and even changing rooms in case you want to freshen up or change clothes before your flight. There’s also direct access from the parking garage, which is a nice touch if you need it.
Personally, though, I don’t find the area particularly appealing. Yes, there’s plenty of space and some nice features, and the free-standing service desks look sleek—but overall, the whole area feels more like a large waiting hall.
The Senator Lounge at the non-Schengen B gates is located on the upper level directly above Gate B43. Aside from the First Class Terminal, it’s definitely my favorite lounge at Frankfurt Airport.
The City Lights Bar offers fresh barista-made coffee and excellent orange juice.
There are several very comfortable seating areas, some of which provide fantastic views of the apron.
The food and beverage selection is what you’d expect from a regular Senator Lounge.
After just under an hour, I leave the lounge and head to Gate B25, where today’s long-awaited flight finally departs: LH 692 (D-AIJC), operated by a five-year-old A320neo, bound for AMM.
Boarding begins around 08:45am and proceeds quickly. The aircraft is only about one-third full.
Right at the start, the purser distributes an amenity kit—finally one that’s actually useful in everyday life. 😊
We land ahead of schedule in Amman at 3:00pm. The sun is shining, and the outside temperature is a pleasant 14°C. Before leaving the aircraft, I briefly chat with the purser. He mentions that there are currently many cancellations on this route and that the return flight is operating with only around 30 passengers.
Before entering the country, I stop by the transfer desk to get an idea of how well a direct turnaround (DT) works here. To my surprise, it takes less than two minutes before I’m standing in front of an almost empty transfer security checkpoint. I’m fairly sure a DT here can be done in under 10 minutes. LH 463 is currently returning directly to FRA anyway.
Immigration with the eVisa is completely straightforward and takes less than a minute. I do wonder whether it’s always this quiet here or if I’ve just picked a very calm day.
Once outside, I check how much an Uber to the Hilton would cost: 38 JOD. Careem quotes the same price. I then ask at the official taxi stand—22.5 JOD, fixed fare. Perfect. I pay immediately by card (AMEX isn’t accepted) and am assigned a driver.
Traffic is heavy, and the drive takes just under 50 minutes. I arrive at the Hilton at 4:20pm.
Check-in is quick, and a very friendly member of the Guest Relations team shows me around the hotel and finally to my room. As a Diamond member, I receive an upgrade to a King Deluxe room on the 8th floor.
There’s also a small welcome amenity waiting for me.
Happy Hour in the lounge is about to start, and after that, I’ll rework my plans for tomorrow.
