Chapter 06
After enjoying five days of sunshine with temperatures around 26°C, Tuesday, Feb 11, brought the first bout of bad weather—thick fog, temperatures around 14°C, and even a brief rain shower. The sea was also noticeably rough for the first time, with waves reaching up to 5 meters. However, you could barely feel it on board—just a bit of rocking, but nothing too extreme.
Luckily, the next day brought back the sunshine with 19°C, allowing us to enjoy the outdoor areas and soak up the sun again.
Among the usual onboard activities, one of the highlights so far was definitely the Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday evening. I watched the game outdoors on the H2O Deck, and it was quite an experience.
A particularly interesting moment was when Trump briefly appeared on the big screen, and the crowd went absolutely wild with excitement. Just imagine a similar reaction in Germany if Scholz or Merz popped up on the screen.
The following evening, a live concert by the Pour House Band took place in the legendary Syd Norman’s Pour House. Of course, I couldn’t miss it, so I lined up an hour before the doors opened—along with a surprisingly long queue of fellow passengers. In the end, the wait was worth it, as the concert turned out to be fantastic.
Near the Pour House, there’s a wall displaying plaques from all the inaugural calls of the Breakaway—a pretty impressive collection.
Every now and then, we pass by tankers or cargo ships, which isn’t surprising given the traffic density in the Atlantic.
Last night, we even crossed paths with the NCL Bliss, which was heading in the opposite direction from Ponta Delgada to Miami.
Now, with the NCL Breakaway, we’ve already completed nearly half of the journey and are currently cruising at 20 knots (37 km/h) toward Ponta Delgada, where we’re scheduled to arrive on Saturday.
To be continued…
